This project was created to bring awareness to Breastfeeding s a normal and vital part of life. I wanted to bring the act of feeding adults and feeding babies on the same plane and out in the open. So, beneath the UT tower on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin, as a final project for my public art course taught by Mel Ziegler, I staged this effort. I invited 6 nursing mothers and their babies to dine out in public while their babies suckled at their breast. the 'ritual' lasted about 2 hours, the women were served a 3 course meal at a fully set table complete with a violinist playing for the. The mothers were from all walks of life, from UT professors, stay at home moms to business professionals. The event was surrounded by onlookers for the duration and was broadcasted on KXAN news that evening. The entire event was a complete success (despite the boot i received on my car for parking so close to the tower to unload! )
