Light Boxes Portraits Experimental Work Paintings
Austin-based visual artist, Brooke Gassiot, is well versed in light and cast shadows. Her most recent series of works are wooden boxes lit from within and embellished upon by unexpected shapes and forms. These "light boxes" invite the viewer to approach them from many angles, constructing multiple compositions within one piece. Found objects, string, bolts, slides, felt, plexiglass and recycled packaging are just some of the materials Gassiot uses to construct the work. Inspired by shadow puppetry, curio boxes, and minimalist design--the works are simultaneously a world unto themselves and a stage for an entire room.

Gassiot is currently the featured artist at milk + honey spa and her work is on display at Austin City Hall in downtown Austin.
