Press Release:

PRESSURE, a new installation by BROOKE GASSIOT,
To be exhibited at PUMP PROJECT ART COMPLEX

JANUARY 21 – FEBRUARY 15, 2012

January 21, 2012, Austin – Pressure, a new large-scale installation by Brooke Gassiot, fills the Pump Project Art Complex
warehouse with sculpture, light, sound, and video and will be on display from January 21, 2012 through February 15,
2012. Brooke Gassiot is known for her use of light and form in her smaller-scale light box installations. Her work is
currently on display at the Austin Bergstrom International Airport and milk + honey spa.

This large-scale installation allows the viewer to actually enter into a constructed world, and is inspired by the idea
of experiencing pressure to move us from a point of consideration to the urgency of acting - it is about the creative
process, and about turning ideas into form.

Brooke Gassiot was recently seen in exhibitions at the 2011 East Austin Studio Tour, GGallery in Houston, as well as Blue
Star Contemporary Center in San Antonio.

Brooke Gassiot was born in Austin, TX, where she currently works and lives. She is a member of the Texas Sculpture
Group, and International Sculpture Center.

Pump Project Art Complex is located at 702 Shady Lane at the corner of Shady Lane and E. 7th street in Austin, Texas.
Opening reception will be on Saturday, January 21st from 6-9pm, and gallery hours are Wednesday and Saturday from
12-5pm.

For more information, please visit www.brookegassiot.com or contact Brooke Gassiot at (512) 299-2254 or

*Creative Capital at the Arthouse was the bomb.*
Wow. My career is wound to propel, thanks to the good folks at Creative Capital and the Arthouse. A 2.5 day workshop in June that spoke to 34 Austin artists trying to find our way in, at times, a daunting career path. thank you, thank you, thank you!

Artist friends- I suggest you check out their resources.

*New York in June*
I had the good fortune to head to the city in June and wander through and see lots of art. The highlight of the trip was 'Sleep No More', and interactive performance by British theatre co., PunchDrunk. Never had I been entrapped in a 100+ room set within an old hotel in Chelsea, chasing actors to gather a plot. It transported us all.

When you come by the Pump Project, look for us downstairs in studio G, near the back bay door.
We have moved out of the rafters and into the main flow of traffic and AIR over here. With summer here, every degree counts!

2010 Arthouse 5x7 Show
I am excited to be participating in this unique event this year. If you have not been to this, it is definitely worth coming out for!

Here's how it works: All pieces are submitted by the artists using the 5" x 7" format (in any media) and signed only on the back side, so they may be displayed anonymously - the artist's name to be revealed only after the work is purchased. Each board is priced at $100, and all proceeds directly support Arthouse's exhibitions and public programs, which are always free of charge. 2010 participating artists included, among hundreds more, Tony Feher, Kelly Fearing, Sharon Engelstein, Vernon Fisher, Kay Rosen, Sterling Allen, and Margarita Cabrera.

5x7 will be held at the old Whitley Printing building this year at 301 Brazos Street in downtown Austin. (Arthouse on Congress Avenue is currently undergoing renovation)
The schedule of events is as follows:

Light box on display at Austin City Hall
Through January of 2011, one of my light boxes titled "The way I used to see things" is on display in front of the mayor's office on the second floor. As part of the juried exhibition for People's Hall, 150 artists were chosen from 3000+ entries. If you have not been in City Hall, it is a beautiful building and the art is quite impressive hanging in it. Also...be sure to vote for your favorite pieces while you are there!

WHAT PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY...
"Your shadow boxes are exquisite! So visually different, different in materials and application, and yet they evoke a sense of familiarity...so strong that one gets lost in them. Your multi-dimensional boxes have a life of their own, and all who viewed them last evening were entranced by their beauty and sincerity. Congratulations!"
-Patrick Landrum
owner, PL&D/ Patrick Landrum Design
--
"The light from Brooke's sculptures is the same light that shone under our bedroom doors when we were young. It cast light on the ghosts and half-dreamed worlds that populated our nights and beyond, on the other side of the door, life."
-Aryn Glazier
Austin-based Visual Artist
--
"These gorgeous, glowing pieces are miniature installations inside wooden boxes"
-Alissa Bayer
